Meraner Land – a wondrous variety

In former times known by its patriarchal name as the “Burggrafenamt”, the area around Meran has today become the “Meraner Land”. The former name was derived, not from the many fortifications (“Burgen”) and castles in Meran, but because the area was formerly under the direct rule of the Burggraf (“burgrave”) of Tyrol. Meran and its surroundings are a byword for wondrous variety. Each day of your holiday can be matched to your individual needs. People who have spent the morning enjoying the fabulous mountain scenery around Meran wearing stout boots and hiking outfits can often be found in evening clothes at one of the city’s numerous cultural events.
